Silicon Timeline does not rewrite what a company reported. It maps different disclosure vocabularies to a conservative status model, groups genuinely comparable product families, and separates completed events from future targets.
STATUS MODEL
Shape, line style and explicit text—not color—encode event status. A record is assigned the most conservative status supported by its source.
The company formally disclosed a new technology or platform.
The company reported development completion or implementation readiness.
Samples were provided to customers or partners for validation.
Initial production, including yield learning, began.
The company explicitly reported mass or volume production.
The company reported shipment of commercial products to customers.
A future production or shipment target, separated from completed events.
FAMILY COLOR
Competing products in a curated cohort share a stable color across companies, filters and languages—for example HBM3E, HBM4, or 2nm/18A-class logic. Company order never changes a color.
A stable semantic mapping, not array position, determines color.
Shared color is a reading aid. Architecture, density, PPA, qualification and production readiness may differ materially.
SOURCE LADDER
Every event needs at least one public original record that readers can open.
Newsrooms, technical pages, investor materials, filings and annual reports establish the date and the company’s own wording.
Standards bodies and regulators provide context when a generation or disclosure needs a reference outside company materials.
Media and research may surface candidate events, but records without a verified public original source are not published.
CURATION SCOPE
A record must mark a material technology, production or commercial transition in the covered foundry, memory, advanced-packaging or silicon-product lenses; have a public original source; and support conservative status and date classification. Product coverage includes mobile SoCs, graphics, client CPUs and AI accelerators. Coverage prioritizes globally significant suppliers and milestones but is not a census, ranking or completeness claim. Omission does not imply irrelevance or underperformance.
Each event reports its source title, URL and record verification date. A page or section locator appears only when it is explicitly recorded; otherwise readers must search the linked document. The link evidences the company statement and is not independent corroboration.
DATE PRECISION
Only day-level records are plotted as exact points. Month, quarter/half-year and year records occupy visible bands spanning their supported interval; the internal date used for sorting is never presented as an observed day.
COMPARISON LIMITS
A node name is not a single physical dimension. Transistor architecture, density, PPA targets and library conditions must be considered.
DRAM process generations, HBM generations and NAND layer counts are distinct axes. Alignment in time does not rank them.
CoWoS, Foveros, X-Cube and other brands contain multiple structures. When detailed specifications are not public, comparison stays at platform level.
A company claim is not independently established history. Descriptions stay neutral and the original claimant remains visible.
